Volunteers' Enormous Donation of Time
30 May 2012
Between April 2011 and March 2012 over 900 volunteers gave their gift of time to support the renowned work of the Dougie Mac.
They donated 136,258 hours of quality time to a variety of roles working directly with patients to fundraising to ensuring the reception service was operated efficiently.
All of our 800+ community of volunteers support the fantastic services which the Dougie Macdelivers. Through their enthusiasm and willingness to assist their local Hospice we are able to enhance the quality of our patients and carer's time within the organisation and the community.
Since the last Volunteer Voice, we have increased the patient facing roles undertaken by volunteers.
Complimentary therapies are now offered to the carer's and relatives of our patients.
One volunteer says,
"They feel that it gives them some 'me time' in an environment that is understanding to the stresses of caring for a sick loved one."
Due to the enthusiastic response from the patients we now utilise art therapy facilitators in the Day Therapy Unit. The sessions provide a therapeutic and positive diversion.
The Clinical Areas and Voluntary Services are continually looking at ways to involve more volunteers working directly with patients and carers.
Please contact Voluntary Services if you would like to discuss the opportunities further:
