Great Wall of China Expedition

The Great Wall of China (Chángchéng; literally "long city/fortress") or (Wànli Chángchéng; literally "The long wall of 10,000 Li) is a series of stone and earthen fortifications in northern China, built, rebuilt, and maintained between the 5th century BC and the 16th century to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire from Xiongnu attacks during various successive dynasties.

Hosted by local communities, we stay in comfort in lovely traditional locations

and explore the Great Wall over 5 days, trekking between villages. The host villages provide us with true rural hospitality and we do not simply rub shoulders but interact with them in “real-life China”. This is a rare privilege, to be hosted by and have this interaction with the locals, including visits to family homes. In the guest house our service is second to none and is provided by our Chinese and western staff: fine Chinese style dinners and western breakfasts, generous packed lunches and the best of dining in Bejing.

On return to Beijing, an enormous bustling city of some 10 million citizens, we visit two of the capital’s major historic sites, the Imperial Palace, known as the “Forbidden City”, and Tiananmen Square
