Volunteering can be a great way for personnel to team build, to develop their problem-solving
skills and make a worthwhile contribution to the local communities.

The DHL Experience:
DHL managers launch UK campaign to help charitable causes
UK Home Delivery team completes two-day assignment for staff and
residents at Stoke-on-Trent hospice.
Managers from DHL have swapped their suits, ties and briefcases
for gardening trowels and paint brushes as part of a new campaign
that allows senior personnel from the companyís Home Delivery
business to undertake voluntary work for UK-based charities and
not-for-profit organisations.
Senior Home Delivery personnel, who are responsible for managing
the relationship between DHL and retail giant Argos, have kick
started the new programme by completing gardening and painting
assignments for the Douglas Macmillan Hospice in Stoke on Trent.
"I am delighted that we were able to make a meaningful contribution
to the hospice over the two days we were with the staff and patients,"
commented Mike Dunn, the DHL Home Delivery Director responsible
for managing the Argos account.
"We painted sheds and fences, we removed about two tonnes of top
soil off the garden - and we did a host of other things in order
to assist staff. We also met patients, staff and other regular
volunteers at the home and they told us about what life was like
on a day-to-day basis - and the challenges they face every day."
The Argos team have now committed to running similar events at
sites throughout the UK - among senior and middle management teams.
"The event was an outstanding success on all levels," added Mike.
"We believe that we made a valuable contribution to life at the
hospice."
"As a team, we were able to develop our relationships and solve
a different range of logistical problems. The assignment certainly
opened our eyes about what life can be like if you suffer from
cancer. Going forward, we will have relationship with our new
friends at The Douglas Macmillan Hospice and try to give further
time and support in the future."
"The General Managers who took part will now be going back to
their teams and rolling out similar exercises, which will ensure
DHL personnel are developing their problem-solving skills and
making a worthwhile contribution to important charities and projects
within their local communities."
Jan Myers, Volunteer Manager at the Douglas Macmillan Hospice,
said: "I would like to say an enormous thank you for all the work
the team did for us."
"The DHL team were a terrific group of people and were a joy to
have around. They really seemed to be enjoying themselves and
made a big impact during their stay with us."
