Royal Recognition for Douglas Macmillan Volunteers

The hospice was nominated for the prestigious Queens Award by the deputy editor of the Sentinel Newspaper, Richard Bowyer, who said he was prompted by the consistent support given to the organisation and its patients by the volunteers, who rarely stepped into the limelight.

The Queen’s representative in Staffordshire, the Lord Lieutenant, Sir James Hawley and scores of volunteers were at the Stoke Repertory Theatre on August 19th 2010 for the official presentation of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, which is the equivalent of an MBE and shared by all the DMH volunteers.
