Dougie Mac Students Graduate
The Douglas Macmillan Hospice honoured the graduation of students during their Celebration of Achievement Awards Evening, which took place on Tuesday 15th November.
Held at the Education Centre, the evening showcased this year's graduates of Degree, Diploma and Certificate Awards.
Pam Swift Head of Education said "Our ultimate aim is to support people who do a great job, do it better."
Graduating this year and receiving their Certificates from Ian Dudson Honarary President of the Hospice are:-
Davina Bell
Community Palliative Care Sister
BSc (Hons) in Long Term Care (Palliative)

"Completing the degree has certainly increased my knowledge, but it has also given me a greater understanding of the holistic approach to palliative care. I am now able to use the knowledge that I gained when caring for patients in their homes."
Nicci Williamson
Day Therapy Unit Sister
BSc (Hons) in Long Term Care (Palliative)

"I never felt the need to study what I had been working in for the previous 24 years, rather conceitedly thinking that I knew most of what there was to know about care of the dying. However, four years later I can honestly say that I probably did know most of what there was to know but now I can say I have the knowledge that underpins it. So when I talk of my work I now have the words that express and explain better what we do. For me it has been rewarding both personally and professionally. I am now in a new post which presents its own challenges but because of education I no longer fear or avoid the learning process. I actually rather enjoy it!"
Elizabeth Mackintosh
Inpatient Unit Staff Nurse
Diploma of (HE) in Palliative Care

Janette Davidson
Hospice at Home Nursing Assistant
Certificate of (HE) in Palliative & End of Life Care
