Home Who we are Patient Stories & Messages

We receive many letters of thanks from patients, their families, friends and carers for the support we provide. It is only thanks to the generosity of our supporters that we are able to provide this care, so these thank you messages are also to thank you, our supporters...

Dear everyone

I have been meaning to write for sometime but have not been able to really express my appreciation and gratitude for all you did not only for mum but for the whole family.

It seems in some ways a long time ago since mum was so ill and was with you all at the Dougie Mac. I think of you all with such warmth as I drive from Nottingham through Meir to visit my father in Stoke.

I hope you are all aware how much mum and we all thought of you and appreciate you all. It gave her great comfort and relief to be in a safe caring environment in her final months being with you to have such support care and human kindness was a great relief to her as it was to all of us.

Knowing she was so well looked after was reassuring and your compassion helped ease our anxiety and practical worries.

It was a difficult time for everyone and we all appreciate how sincere you all were and also your understanding and consideration to both dad and my children’s needs.

Although a very sad time the Dougie Mac was a haven of warmth and shelter – one of the most caring, calm and supportive places to be. I shall appreciate forever, as will everyone in the family, all the consideration thoughtfulness and genuine individual acts which every one of you carried out in your own ways.

The Dougie Mac is a true example of what genuine nursing care is, as you did help so much at a difficult time and this was a comfort to all of us that we shall never forget.

Just a note to say huge thanks for all your help and support whilst  I have been here you’ve all been brilliant and I shall miss you.
Thank you for all your kind help support and caring for our dad. He really did appreciate all your care.
I want to say a big thank you for all the care you have given to my husband during his stay at Dougie Mac.
The care and attention that everybody has given to him has been excellent.
As soon as I enter dougie mac everyone has met  me like a friend which has meant so much to me.
I will never be able to thank you all enough and neither will he.
You are each and everyone of you wonderful and we are so grateful to you for your care consideration and cheerfulness.
We wanted to express our deep gratitude for the wonderful care given to our dad in his last days. We will be eternally grateful for the dignified end afforded him which he so wanted. Also the kindness and support shown to us and our mum by all the staff on Friday gave such comfort we will always be grateful for this
With grateful thanks more than we can put into words.
To my very special friends.
I am writing to thank you all for the excellent care which was given to me.
The best bottle of medicine is the dedication caring  helpfulness kindness and smiling face.
I cannot wait to see you next year if I am lucky enough to come and stay with you.
All my family and friends know all about you they could not believe how well I looked.
Great big  thank you God bless you all
We cant begin to explain how thankful we all are that he was so well cared for and no longer in pain.
You have welcomed us and supported us so well and we will be forever in your debt thank you to each and every one of you.

I write to say thank you for the care and professionalism shown to my mum during her last few days.
My mum went through a lot during the last seven months and the family take comfort that she was comfortable and in no pain at the end.
Can I also thank Dr Lloyd who explained matters in a simplistic and sympathetic way which helped in accepting that Mum’s life was coming to an end.
The whole family is grateful for all the help given and we have arranged that donations be made to the hospice in her memory.

My heartfelt thanks for nursing and looking after my beautiful husband whilst in the Hospice. I so desperately wanted him to come home, as you know, it just wasn’t meant to be.  After much soul searching I know I could have never given him the expert carer that you gave him and helped his death to be so peaceful and with such dignity and grace.  This I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My thanks also for the bed you provided for me.  You will never know just how much that has meant to me.  You all do such an amazing job with such love and compassion.  You all have made such a very distressing time so much more bearable. Thank you all so very much.

My love and best wishes.

My Dad is in with you at the moment and I am amazed at the high quality standard of care he's getting.

I'd never visited before but the atmosphere and the superb staff and volunteers make what is a difficult visit anyway a whole lot easier. Thank you x
