Hairdresser shaves hair in Dads honour

Brave Dougie Mac volunteer Shirley Ray honoured the memory of her late dad when she recently had her head shaved in our Meir superstore.
The 52 year old has volunteered in the shop for the past six months and was inspired to support the Dougie Mac,after seeing first hand the care her father Stanley received many years ago for pancreatic cancer.
So far she has raised £1,000 which will be split between Douglas Macmillan Hospice and Shropshire Blood Bikes.
Shirley said:”I like to think that my Dad was here with me today and he would be proud.”He was quite young when he passed away and although many years have gone I wanted to do this for him.”
Shirley then later added “There was nothing really like the Dougie Mac when he was battling cancer. Its a wonderful charity.”
Shirley’s husband Carlton said “she’s a lot braver than I am. I wasn’t sure that she would actually go through with it but she has. I’m very proud of her and what she’s done. “She’s raised just over £1,000 so far but there is still money coming in.”
Yvonne Colclough, our head of retail said, “Shirley is brilliant and everything you would ever want in a volunteer. It was her idea to do the head shave and we are so happy to support and help her.”
