Ashley’s Helping Hand for Hospice

Ashley Mann has said how volunteering at Douglas Macmillan Hospice’s Bentilee shop has helped his self-confidence.

The 23 year old has been volunteering for six months, and after having personal experience of a family member using the service he decided to make use of his spare time.

Ashley told us,

“You can pick and choose the days you volunteer and I work three days a week but also do extra days where I can, the staff are more than grateful.

“I do a bit of everything at the store, from serving customers on the till and checking donations to pricing items and ironing clothing and I like it all.”

Ashley has benefited from the social side of volunteering, and has seen his self-confidence increase since starting in the shop.

“I didn’t have much confidence before coming here but now I’ve got loads,” he said.

Ashley has now urged others to join him by volunteering in a Dougie Mac shop across the area.

“It’s a good place to volunteer and I’d recommend it to anyone,” he added.

If you would be interested in volunteering in one of Dougie Mac’s 19 shops across North Staffordshire, please call 01782 344332 or e-mail volunteernow@www.dmhospice.org.uk.
