Liz’s helping hand for Dougie Mac Leek shop

Retired teacher Liz Jackson has said how volunteering at Douglas Macmillan Hospice’s Leek shop helped her through a difficult time.

The 65 year old from Werrington, began volunteering in the shop five years ago after her mother died at the Blurton-based hospice.

Liz Jackson commented,

“They were so good with my mum that I wanted to give a bit back so I volunteer. I was lonely after my mum died; my husband wasn’t always in and I felt at a bit of a loose end.

“Volunteering has helped me fill that void. Everybody is very friendly and staff members have outings which is fun.

“I’d advise anyone to volunteer if they can, it’s good fun and helps a great cause.”

Yvonne Colclough, Retail Operations Head added,

“We would not be able to keep our shops open without the support of people like Liz and all of our dedicated volunteers.”
