The Dougie Mac’s Hospice at Home team is one of the integral parts of the organisation which helps us to provide a 24 hour a day service.
Here we chat to Kath Quayle, who has been a Nursing Assistant in the team for the past 11 years.
“We offer advice, guidance and support as well as helping to manage symptoms and referring patients to other services when required. We also enable patients and their fears, anxieties and wishes,” she said.
Kath highlights that patients and families often feel vulnerable at night – one of the reasons that the Hospice at Home service is so vital.
“The Dougie Mac is a 24 hour operation, seven days a week, and anybody who requires any information about palliative care can call the advice line for guidance.
“I feel it’s a great privilege to be allowed into someone’s home to care at their stage of illness – they are so grateful for the support we’re able to give,” Kath added.
