This March, Judith Wilkes will be lacing up her trainers to tackle the Dougie Mac 5K run in honour of her loved ones. And it’s a family affair too as she’ll be joined by husband Paul, 6 year old son Zachary and 3 year old son Sebastian and even their canine companion, Indi! Here’s Jude’s story:
“Like many local people, my family share a number of strong links to the Dougie Mac; my Grandad was cared for by the hospice 12 years ago as was my 29 year old cousin Gina just last year.
Not only did the fabulous nursing staff show immense care, they went the extra mile to help Gina achieve her final wishes in the very short time she was given. One of these was being able to leave a keepsake to her partner and to her father; a plaster cast of her hand next to theirs that the Day Therapy Unit helped her create.
Dougie Mac is a fantastic charity that goes above and beyond to offer exceptional care, not only to patients, but to their families too. The Wilkes family are pleased to be supporting such an amazing cause and we look forward to meeting you on Sunday 25th March! Zac and Seb will be dressed as Captain America so be sure to give us a wave!”
The Dougie Mac 5K is a fundraising event to support the amazing care provided by the hospice here in North Staffordshire. It starts at 9.30am and takes place at the World of Wedgwood in Barlaston.
This event incorporates a 5K chip timed race for Dougie Mac supporters wishing to gain a official race time, a 5K fun run and also a 5K walk.
Participants will start and finish their run or walk at World of Wedgwood’s Atrium, with the course taking them on a route around parts of Wedgwood’s beautiful 240 acre estate.
