This week, we received a kind donation from a very special lady, Bessie Hammond, a long-time supporter of Dougie Mac.
Last month, Bessie celebrated her 105th birthday alongside friends and family, raising a total of £270 for the hospice. She previously raised a fantastic £600 on her 100th birthday through donations in lieu of presents.
During her impressive life, Bessie has achieved much: From helping the war effort by working at the munitions factory and delivering some of Draycott’s babies (as an unofficial midwife!) owing to her extensive knowledge in her profession as a nurse; to raising thousands of pounds for local charities and also doing her bit for the community as a school governor and as a parish councillor of thirty years’ service.
In addition, Bessie has also grown quite the family tree, welcoming 5 children, 14 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren into the world!
A big thank you to Bessie for sharing her story with us and for her kind donation to Dougie Mac!
