A major focus for Dougie Mac is, and always has been, to provide the means to enable patients to live as fulfilled a life as possible.

Once a patient’s concerns, fears or worries are addressed and they are given support in making advance care plans, our main aim is to help our patients achieve their goals and live well.

“This approach has been a key driver in the decision to bring the Social Work Team, Advance Care Planning Service, Carer and Patient Support Service, Spiritual Care and Counselling and Psychological Support Services together as the Living Well Team” says Kevin Chesters who heads up this newly formed multi-disciplinary team.

“The move also reflects a broader shift in the hospice movement to promote the concept of Living Well and to have a more joined up approach to addressing the different dimensions of our being; spiritual, psychological, social and physical.

“This concept also acknowledges that although they are often addressed as different dimensions, they are very much interlinked in the way they contribute to our overall sense of wellbeing and the ability to live our lives well.”

Each service will still retain its separate identity and specialisms but there will be benefits to both patients and the people who support as a result of closer alignment in assessing a patient’s strengths and needs, identifying their goals and planning for the support Dougie Mac provides to help them achieve these.
