Dougie Mac volunteer Emily Kirk, 17, was awarded the under-25s Volunteer of the Year at the Support Staffordshire Star Awards on 13th June 2019.
Emily has volunteered at the hospice’s shop in Leek for 18 months. She is currently studying for her GCSEs.
Alison Owen, Dougie Mac Leek shop manager, nominated Emily for her commitment to volunteering and mentoring other young volunteers undertaking the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Alison said: “Emily has a zest for life and is a role model to other young people.”
Emily is having her hair cut short in the Leek shop on 10th July to raise money for Dougie Mac and other charities.
Deborah Vickers, Volunteer Resource Manager at Dougie Mac, said: “Congratulations to Emily on winning this award. It is fantastic to see young people volunteering for Dougie Mac and bringing their unique skills, talents and energy to support the work of the hospice.
“We hope more young people will be inspired by Emily to volunteer for Dougie Mac.”
