An important message from Dougie Mac CEO, David Webster:
“I am delighted to announce, that after extensive discussions at Board Level the Donna Louise Children’s Hospice (DLCH) will be amalgamated into the current structures and systems at Dougie Mac. This means that the Trustees and Directors of Dougie Mac will assume control of DLCH. This transition will take some months to complete but work will commence soon to protect and develop the services to local families that are currently provided by DLCH.
“The financial sustainability of DLCH as an independent hospice and the determination to continue to provide children’s palliative and end of life care in our heartland have been the twin drivers for this landmark decision. Without the interventions of Dougie Mac, the DLCH faced the likelihood of very significant cuts to services, but this amalgamation enables a secure future to be established with the greater efficiencies and scale economies of a larger organisation.
“We will retain the Donna Louise name and our objective is to protect and develop the excellent services for children and to young adults for which Donna Louise has become renowned. However there is a business need to achieve efficiencies in back-office functions so that the donated pound goes further in funding care.
“I hope the local community will agree that this is a magnificent opportunity for Dougie Mac to reinforce our position as a formidable charity in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire, whilst enabling the continuation of extremely valuable services to children and families who need our help, and playing our part in delivering excellent palliative and end of life care across a wider age spectrum.
“Thank you for all your ongoing support, I am certain that we will be relying on further support in the next few years as we reshape these vital services for our city.”
