Since government restrictions surrounding social distancing were implemented in the workplace, many of our volunteers have been unable to support us in the way that they usually would.
Our volunteers are essential to the work of Dougie Mac and we simply couldn’t provide the same service without their dedication and support. However, it was a vital priority to make sure we kept our volunteers safe.
Although our volunteers haven’t been able to help out at the hospice and in our retail shops, they have never been too far from our thoughts. Our Voluntary Services team have been hard at work and have spoken to ALL of our 1000+ volunteers during this time. Since 1st-7th June marks Volunteers Week, we’d like to share how we our continuing to support our wonderful team.
Our Voluntary Services department have used well-being calls as an opportunity for a friendly catch up as well as to signpost more isolated and vulnerable volunteers to other support agencies for further assistance.
During these calls, the team have also been encouraging our volunteers to join our Volunteers Facebook group, which saw its members double during the first 4 weeks of lockdown. We now have 362 members in the group, with many volunteers embracing Facebook for the very first time just to be part of the fantastic online community we have created. The group has seen our volunteers reconnect with each other during this period of social distancing and the Voluntary Services team have been keeping the group entertained with photos, quizzes, mindfulness activities as well keeping everyone up to date with the latest hospice news.
The Voluntary Services team are maintaining regular contact with over 40 volunteers who have requested further support during this time. They are also ensuring volunteers use this time to keep up to date with their annual mandatory training as well as devising further training for when volunteers can safely return back to their roles. With Volunteers Week just round the corner, the team have also been hard at work planning alternative celebrations to ensure we can still say a big thank you to our very deserving volunteers!
Well done to our wonderful Voluntary Services team who have worked tirelessly over the last few months to ensure our Volunteers are safe and well supported while at home.
