9 year old, Lily and 6 year old sister, Poppy, have cycled 27 miles and donated £50 to Dougie Mac in thanks for the care their Granny, Christine received from the hospice last year.
The girls have inherited their love of cycling from their parents, Geoff and Heather who are also regular supporters of the annual Dougie Mac Bike Ride.
In 2019, the Dale family took part in the Dougie Mac Bike Ride, with Lily pedalling a tag along bike with Dad Geoff and Poppy enjoying the ride in the passenger seat of Heather’s bike.
Following the event, the ambitious sisters were already looking forward to the next Dougie Mac Bike Ride and spent hours practising riding their bikes.
Due to Covid-19 and the safety of participants, the 2020 Dougie Mac Bike Ride was cancelled in early March. Disappointed yet undeterred, Lily and Poppy decided they would do their own bike ride around their local area in order to continue to support the hospice.
Lily and Poppy said: “When we heard that the bike ride was cancelled, we were disappointed but decided to do our own 27 mile bike ride to support the great work Dougie Mac does; including looking after our Granny last year.”
On Saturday 16th May and what would have been Dougie Mac’s fundraising cycling event, the family headed out for their 27 mile cycle, with Poppy confidently cycling the tag along bike and Lily upgrading to a bike of her own.
Parents, Geoff and Heather said: “We are so proud of the girls for still wanting to do the ride. Lily is aware of how much donations mean to the hospice so she was really keen to participate again this year. The donation was money the girls received for their birthdays which they wanted to donate.”
We are so grateful to the Dale family for their continued support. It is incredibly humbling to see how our local community have supported us with fundraising throughout the pandemic.
