Dougie Mac Sees Record Breaking Day of Trading in Retail History

Further easing of lockdown restrictions allowed local hospice, Dougie Mac to welcome thousands of shoppers back through the doors of their retail shops earlier this week.

Dougie Mac retail which accounts for more than 30% of the hospices £13 million yearly running costs saw a record breaking day of sales as over £21,000 was generated on their first day of trading in 2021.

Liz Clarke, Head of Charity Trading is delighted by the support for the hospice: “Our reopening was a momentous, remarkable and record-breaking day thanks to our wonderful retail team of staff and volunteers and the local community who never let us down. We managed to more than double our daily average which is just fantastic and certainly one of my highlights during my time at Dougie Mac.”

This triumphant achievement comes after Dougie Mac shops were closed for over 5 months over the last year due to ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.

Liz continued: “The shop closures have been devasting and we estimate we have lost approximately £2 million of revenue during this time. After such a phenomenal first day, we are feeling incredibly positive and looking forward to a successful return to the high street.”

18 of the hospice’s charity shops are now open and accepting donations.

Liz said: “We have received some superb donations over the last week and we’re so grateful to everyone who has saved items for us. We expect high levels of donations to continue over the next couple of weeks so please be patient when donating as safety remains our top priority.”

All Dougie Mac shops continue to operate in accordance with Covid safe practices including social distancing signage, hand sanitiser stations and till screens.

Liz added: “The atmosphere in our shops has been euphoric since our reopening and our team are looking forward to seeing even more shoppers over the coming weeks. Your support is invaluable in helping us continue to provide exceptional end of life care services across our community.”
